NOGALES, ARIZONA - June 3, 2004 -- Alpha Pro Tech (AMEX:
APT; CHX:APT), a leading innovator and manufacturer of proprietary
materials for disposable protective apparel and consumer products, today
announced it has entered the construction supply weatherization market with the
formation of Alpha ProTech Engineered Products, Inc., a wholly-owned
subsidiary. The company expects to begin manufacturing and distributing a
building wrap product as well as a synthetic roof underlayment. The new company
has hired Bruce Hayden, a veteran of the construction industry, to build the
distribution channels and drive demand as Vice President of Sales and
Marketing. Mr. Hayden was the Director of Sales and Marketing for a leading
manufacturer of construction products for the residential housing market for
the past eight years.
Al Millar, President of Alpha Pro Tech commented, “This announcement is a
natural extension of our core capabilities: creating proprietary products
designed to protect people and environments. Our expertise has now allowed us
to create unique and improved materials which will better protect homes and
offices from the environment and nature’s elements, while improving
efficiencies and reducing expenses for contractors and homebuilders. With two
million privately-owned housing units authorized by building permits annually
in the USA according to the US Census Bureau, new home building will be a
natural target and we expect about 80 percent of our sales to be generated from
this portion of the market and 20 percent coming from the restoration and
repair market in both residential and commercial building. We look forward to
introducing our exciting products and anticipate booking sales during the
fourth quarter of 2004.”
“Bruce Hayden joined the company bringing his years of expertise in the
manufacturing and sales of building products. He brings exceptional energy and
a proven track record to Alpha ProTech, and I am confident he will create
widespread awareness for our innovative products while building a substantial
distribution network,” Mr. Millar continued. “This business has the potential
to add significant growth for Alpha Pro Tech, leveraging both our manufacturing
techniques and our proprietary materials into an exciting new market for us. We
welcome Bruce to the Alpha ProTech team and look forward to great successes for
this important new subsidiary.” Al Millar went on to say, “Our commitment to
this opportunity will also include a 30,000 sq, foot building and an initial
investment of machinery and equipment which is consistent with our planned
capital expenditures.”
The company will target distributors who have established relationships and
developed channels for selling roofing and construction materials. The first
two products expected to be sold by Alpha ProTech Engineered Products, Inc.
will be a building wrap and a synthetic roof underlayment. The usage of these
two products offers great advantages in decreasing the time it takes to
construct a home as well as offering cost reduction. The building wrap will
offer a tremendous weather resistive barrier and, to the home owner, years of
lower energy consumption. The proprietary synthetic roof underlayment has the
ability to resist the environment, as opposed to conventional organic roofing
underlayment that are prone to rapid degradation & mold growth.
