NOGALES, ARIZONA - June 8, 2004 -- Alpha Pro Tech (AMEX:
APT; CHX:APT), a leading developer and manufacturer of proprietary
materials for disposable protective apparel and consumer products, announced
today that it will be marketing and selling a paint product made with an
antimicrobial formula that inhibits growth of bacteria, fungi and algae on the
painted surfaces in hospitals, surgical rooms, cleanrooms and associated
controlled environments.
The paint with antimicrobials, along with our recently announced entry into the
building wrap and roof underlayment business will be marketed and sold by Alpha
ProTech Engineered Products, Inc., a recently formed wholly-owned subsidiary.
This paint has been tested at Nelson Laboratories, Inc., a privately owned
testing lab specializing in microbiology, and confirmed by a leading University
for its containment ability to inhibit micro-organisms. Alpha Pro Tech has an
existing exclusive licensing agreement for the proprietary antimicrobial
formulation to be used in this product.
The Company is also pleased to announce the retaining of Anne Marie Dixon, of
Cleanroom Management Associates, Inc., as a consultant. Ms. Dixon has been
actively engaged in contamination control since 1976, with extensive experience
in the areas of training, strategic consulting and technical writing. Ms. Dixon
has trained more than 450,000 cleanroom technicians and managers, written more
than 90 technical papers and five books. Included in her many professional
affiliations and accomplishments, Ms. Dixon is the head of the U.S. delegation
to the ISO Technical Committee 209 on “Cleanroom and Associated Controlled
Environments,” Past President and Fellow of the Institute of Environmental
Sciences and Technology, first recipient of the PDA, the James P. Agalloco
Award for Excellence in Education (1993). Ms. Dixon is also an ISO 9000
Auditor.
